My hand woven jewelry collections are mosaics of creative expression. By applying fiber techniques to gold using the simplicity of primary shapes, these woven sculptures reveal their fluidity and depth as seen in the geometry of nature. These unique pieces evoke dream catchers, kaleidoscopes and contemporary filigree.
BIOGRAPHY:
An aspiring artist since the sixth grade, Marie Scarpa began making jewelry in high school. Shortly after earning a BFA in Metalsmithing from Syracuse University, Marie relocated to Northern California, honing her skills working with several San Francisco Bay Area designer jewelers.
Drawing from her diverse fiber arts and weaving talents Marie hand weaves tiny tapestries with fine gauge wire embellishing them with brightly colored gems. This combination of fiber and jewelry techniques in unconventional ways creates her unique look. Her specialty is hand woven one-of-a-kind pieces as well as limited production collections. Marie is the recipient of numerous jewelry industry awards as well as prestigious craft show honors.
Before creating these hand woven collections Marie specialized in custom wax carving and has been known in the San Francisco Bay Area for her skill and high standards for more than twenty years. Inspired by her adventurous spirit and imagination Marie’s jewelry is fun, wearable and elegant.
